Alstom, Schneider Electric may make combined offer to acquire Areva T&D

Alstom Projects, global leader in power generation and rail infrastructure, and Schneider Electric — a global specialist in energy management – are contemplating to make a combined offer to acquire Areva Transmission and Distribution (T&D), lately put up for sale by its parent company.

If this offer is accepted, the transmission activities would be transferred to Alstom and the distribution activities to Schneider Electric. This offer will optimise the strategic, industrial and commercial strengths that the duo can bring to each of the two areas of T&D and enhance the value of the business.

Notably, the high voltage Transmission (T) part of Areva T&D is very close to Alstom’s activities in power generation and the medium voltage Distribution (D) part of Areva T&D is a business in which Schneider Electric is very dynamic. As a result, the consolidation around two major worldwide industrial groups, specialised in their own fields, would turn out to be very attractive and would represent a significant development opportunity for Areva T&D’s employees.
