DoT expects over Rs 13K cr in fiscal 2008-09

The Department of telecommunication (DoT) is expected to fetch over Rs 13,000 cr in the fiscal 2008-09 from telecom operators, the biggest non-tax income for the exchequer.

This huge amount would come to Department of Telecom from the service providers as licence fee and spectrum charges. The estimates are based on earnings of telecom companies about Rs 1.25 lakh crore in the said period.

Adjusted gross revenue (exclusive of revenue from non-telecom operations) of telecom players is put at Rs 95,000 crore and DoT hopes to garner 12% (Rs 13,000 crore) of AGR as license fee and spectrum charges.
