Foundation stone laid for Rs 5,900 cr Tuticorin power project

The foundation stone for the 1,000 mega watt Thoothukudi thermal power plant in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu was laid down by external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee today.
The proposed project worth Rs 5,900 crore will be developed by NLC Tamil Nadu Power, a 89:11 joint venture between Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) and the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board.
The power project will have special features like reverse osmosis desalination plant, gas insulation switchyard and pile foundation.
The coal required for the plan will be imported from Indonesia, company officials announced.
