Glenmark, Teva call it a day on their patent dispute

April 23, 2009 by admin

Glennmark Pharma, a Mumbai-based pharma company and Teva, a generic major from Israel, have entered into an out-of-court settlement over their patent dispute over generic versions of Coreg, which is used in curing congestive heart failure.

Teva had filed a lawsuit against Glenmark in August, 2008 in opposition of process being used by the latter to manufacture Carvedilol, a main pharmaceutical component used in generic version of Coreg.

To counter the lawsuit, Glenmark raised a series of claims in December 2008 saying Teva’s argument was worthless and cannot be enforced as it has misrepresented US Patent and Trademark office and also blamed the former for indulging into a fraud litigation.

Teva has a history of filing a lawsuit against Indian pharma majors like Ranbaxy, Dr Reddy’s, which were settled out of court later on.
