Ion Exchange India has won a project from Chennai based NTPC Tamil Nadu Energy Company for setting up a seawater desalination plant.
NTPC Tamil Nadu Energy is a joint venture between the National Thermal Power Corporation and the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board.
The work on the proposed project worth Rs 126.3 crore is likely to start in about a month’s time.
Ion Exchange will set up a 3×275 cu.m per hour seawater desalination plant using reverse osmosis technology at Vallur to the north of Chennai. This plant will treat processed sea water further to give demineralised water for use in the boiler drum for steam generation.
A small part of the reverse osmosis water will also be used as drinking water.
