National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is going to enter into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Chhattisgarh government on July 12, 2009, to set up an ultra mega power project in the state.

The 4000 MW coal-fired power plant is going to be set up at Lara village of Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh.

Earlier the project was in troubled waters due to state government demand for half of the power generated from the plant at production cost but now the issue has been resolved by the Union power minister Sushil Kumar Shinde.

Apart from this, NTPC is also going to set-up an Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) in the state.
