ONGC attains all time record in production of oil and gas

Public sector exploration and production (E&P) major Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has recorded an all time high of oil and gas production up to December in the current fiscal, from the Cauvery basin.
Till December 31, 2008 2.028 lakh tonnes of oil was produced against the target of 2.01 lakh tonnes. Gas production touched 939 million metric standard cubic metres (MMSCM) as against the target of 859 MMSCM.
Besides, the sale of gas also increased by touching 929 MMSCM against the targeted 845 MMSCM.
The complicated geographical processes took place under the sands of the Cauvery basin which is spread over an area of 27,850 square kilometer and extends from Puducherry in the north to Ramnad in the south, Thanjavur in the west and Karaikal in the east.
