Patni Computer marginally up on BSE

IT major Patni Computer Systems has installed VMware virtualization platform to cap the rising information technology (IT) management costs resulting from the strong business growth of the company worldwide. The scrip is currently trading at Rs 437.40, up by 1.45 points or 0.33% on the BSE.

The stock opened at Rs 440 as compared to its previous close of Rs 435.95. Intraday, the counter touched a high and a low of Rs 443.70 and Rs 404.10 respectively.

So far, 99,593 shares of the company were traded on the BSE.

The stock touched its 52-week high of Rs 488 on September 17, 2009 and a 52-week low of Rs 94 on March 2, 2009.

The scrip has gained by 2.50% since the past one week and by 8.70% since the last one month.

The company has selected VMware ESX to virtualize its server infrastructure and replace the physical servers at the datacenters.

VMware virtualization has provided Patni with centralized control to ease server management, the company said in its filing with the BSE.

The company further added that the initiative has enabled it to achieve benefits including high availability, reduced infrastructure downtime, and faster backup and restoration times.

Apart from this, the solution has also allowed it to migrate easily from a 32-bit to a 64-bit environment.

At present, 80% of Patni’s virtual machines are running production applications and 90% of its internal applications are deployed on these machines.

VMware’s customers in India include Atrenta India, Bajaj Auto, Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL), Chitale Dairy, Dewan Housing Finance Corporation, Essel Propack, Future Businesstech, Helix Financials, i2 Technologies, Macawber Beekay, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), Persistent Systems, Reliance General Insurance and Religare among others.
