Sahara Power draws up expansion plan

Sahara India Power Corporation, belonging to the Sahara Group, has drawn up its expansion plan in northern India. As per the plan, the company is considering setting up
a 1,320 MW coal-based power project in Orissa.

The power utility company also plans to set up a 5 MW Grid Interactive Solar Photo Voltaic Power Plant at Dhenkanal in Orissa at an investment of Rs 125 crore.

The Rs 5,604 crore thermal power plant would be built on an area of 1,500 acres, while the first unit of 660 MW capacity would be commissioned in about four years. The project would be in a joint venture with global power companies.

Sahara Power has inked a pact with US-based Solar Integrated Technologies for supply and installation of the required plant and equipment for its proposed non-conventional power unit

Also on the cards are a 25 MW wind power projects in Orissa, a 2,000 MW coal-based power plants in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh at an estimated investment of Rs 8,000 crore each.
