Officers of the State bank of India (SBI) will observe a two day nation wide strike from April 8 to demand hiring of new officers and revising pay scales.
All India State Bank Officers’ Federation President T N Goel said that there was a shortage of 7,000-8,000 officers across the country. He also said that 25% of the branches have only one officer, though the core banking solution (CBS) requires minimum two officers in each branch.
The public sector lender currently employees more than 65,000 officers in more than 11,000 branches of the bank across India.
The union is protesting against the opening of new branches without minimum staff and adequate infrastructure and to demand for improving pension scheme, revision of pay scales and regulated working hours.
The officers also threatened to go on an indefinite nationwide strike in May if their demands are not met.
