TCS to sign a contract to start the Passport Seva project

The Tata Group-promoted IT major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) will sign a contract for starting the Passport Seva project, a public-private initiative to improve passport services in India.
The ambitious e-governance project will be first initiated as a pilot project in two cities for about eight months that aims to issue a new passports within three days and shorten queue time besides some other formalities. The company will charge a fee of about Rs 200 for each transaction.
The tender for the project was floated last October on the basis of a report by the Hyderabad-based National Institute for Smart Government and it is estimated to be worth around Rs 1,000–1,500 crore.
